X, a boy who won a Pokémon Tournament as a child, has become depressed due to bad experiences with the paparazzi and the public speaking bad about him. Although his friends Y, Shauna, Tierno, and Trevor try to get him back to normal, he refuses to listen to them.
Meanwhile, Team Flare is aiming to capture both X's Mega Ring and the Legendary Pokémon Xerneas and Yveltal to power their ultimate weapon.
Pocket Monsters Special XY is a manga or grapic novel based on the Pokémon XY games by Nintendo. The story's been written by Hidenori Kusaka and its illustrations are made by Satoshi Yamamoto.
This first volume inlcudes the first seven chapters in a total amount of 196 pages.

This story begins with a prodigy trainer named X who couldn't handle the pressure of fame - he was often stalked and harassed by reporters and paparazzi, thus ending up isolating himself in his room an never coming out again. One day, his friends come by his house and try to convince him to go out. When they are about to give up and let X stay in his sacred bedroom, they hear an explosion somewhere near - it turns out, the mythological Pokémon Xerneas and Yveltal have been awaken and now they're fighting each other. Vaniville Town (Escissia in German) is being devastated and our heros must leave as soon as possible but they come across with some strange dudes wearing orange - and no, we're not talking about prisoners, but the weird and mysterious Team Flare, who seem to be responsible for all the damages and now they're are after X's Mega-Ring.
When I started reading the first chapter, I found this X's background a pretty good idea and I thought it was a great start. But the way this idea of X's isolation was developed during the next chapters was just annoying, in my opinion. Ryhorn carrying X and X's... house? cave? mobile room? around was very stupid, I think. Plus, everytime a friend of X tried to socialize with him, he showed himself very rude and careless. Like, really mate, these are your friends and they're just trying to be friendly, what the frick are you doing? To be honest, X's personality just drove me mad sometimes and he was the only main character I didn't connect with.
About the other characters, I don't have that much to talk about. They're just fine and I got a really good impresison of them. Specially Shauna (Sannah in German), I really liked her determination and her personality in general. And I strongly think, she did not deserve it, when her Furfrou died. It was a so fricking cruel and cold blooded death! Like, why? WHY?
Besides that, the story itself was absorbing and awesome. Five kiddos who have to leave their hometown in order to not be caught by these criminals who are wearing horrible orange suits and... well, since their hometown's been comepletely destroyed and turned into almost dust. And the orange-suit-dudes are the only ones to blame, of course.
Talking about the art... well, the art is simply awesome. I loved the way the characters are drawn, the Pokémons are also super cool. Plus, the action scenes are remarkably well depicted!
All in all, its been a good read, I enjoyed it quite a lot although there were some downsides, like the development of one of the main characters and... well, the fact that it's super fast to read, when you finish you need more!
